AUTHOR'S LIFE
He was born
on 2 September 1918 in Akşehir. He went to primary and secondary school in
Akşehir. While he was studying in the boarding part of Istanbul High School, when
the boarding part of this high school was closed, he had his enrollment taken
to Konya High School and finished high school here. (1936). Tarık Buğra, who
started to write stories and poems under the pen name Tarık Nazım during his high school
years, studied at the Faculty of Medicine and Law of Istanbul University for a
while and then left in the last year of the Department of Turkish Language
Literature, where he enrolled. After his military service, he started to work
as an assistant teacher at Şişli Terakki High School. In the contest opened by
Cumhuriyet newspaper, it was announced that he was awarded a grand prize of one
thousand lira for his story called My Son (uz). (1948). However, Tarık Buğra
was given a gold pen instead of this money. As a result of this award, Tarık
Buğra, who became more courageous to enter the press life with his intense job
offers, returned to Akşehir and published the Nasreddin Hodja Newspaper (26
July 1949-28 June 1952). He edited art pages, wrote anecdotes and worked as the
editor-in-chief of Milliyet newspaper, Vatan, Yeni İstanbul newspaper
(1952-1956), Yol Magazine (1968) and Tercüman newspaper (1970-1976). Hisar
magazines and newspapers in Turkey also by Tarık Buğra, has died in Istanbul on
February 26, 1994.
